All that Jazz.
Traditional business can often be compared to an orchestra.
There are several sections in which each team member has a specific work location and a defined set of instructions. The conductor assumes the role of the manager and provides direction and assures cohesion between the departments and team members.
While having the ability to execute at a high level, this is achieved through repeated rehearsal and there is no room for improvisation due to changing circumstances.
I see the Yellow Dog model as a flexible jazz collective.
Individual players combining to play a piece of music that they may never have played before and may never play again. Musicians appearing for one night only or forming part of the core of the band.
The ability to play without a score and having the talent and experience to be able to improvise around each other, with each player able to take the lead as required.
This relies upon trust, experience, know-how and the confidence in oneself to perform and partner players to have the capacity to allow that to happen.
The economic challenges facing businesses today make orchestra’s expensive to maintain and not having the agility and speed of response to meet the demands of a fast-moving and ever-changing world.
My view?
I am very happy to be more dog and dig that jazz!
